A whale, a whale!

Day 1 is over. 77 nm, 1,8% of the whole passage. I am at the end of the continental shelf. A steep step from 50m depth to 1000m. I was just in the cockpit to take a photo of the scandalous amount of plastic rubbish for you. The Gulf of Panama is a dumpster. Half of the plastic waste it is small water plastic bottles. Some people are so completely ignorant. No photo of this rubbish, since I heard and then saw a whale. You will need some phantasy to spot it on the photo. Have a nice Wednesday. Ulrich

Sunrise at the Las Perlas Islands

Only 2 kn of wind. I took the sails down to stop flapping. The engine is running at low rpm to save Diesel. These fishing boats with no AIS make my life difficult. Sleep cycles of 45 min. The Pacific gives his regards by sending a slow swell of 0.5m into the bay of Panama.

Goodbye America

I left Panama City at 16:30 after a busy day. I sail into a very quiet night. Lightning lights the clouds over Panama City. It took me two hours to repair the windvane. Two brass screws were badly corroded in their stainless steel threads. So I had to drill them out and replace them with stainless steel screws. I now need two pliers to attach the windvane to the self-steering device. When I was finished with this job the wind had decreased to 3 knots. Too little for the mechanical windvane. So I stear with the electric autopilot. The speed over ground is between 1,5 and 2 knots. This is one of the moments when I absolutely love the Swan. Still moving in nearly no wind. The dolphins are really loud when all is so quiet. Now I will try to get some fragmented sleep. I could not get to sleep yesterday – too nervous about my long trip.

I will most likely start on Monday

Hi Friends of SV Easy. I am still at anchor in Panama City. Waiting for my courage to build up. Most likely i will hoist my anchor on Monday. The destination is Iles Gambier. This trip is 4200 nautical miles long, it will take me 35 days (and 35 nights), if all goes well. Wish me luck. You can follow my position and my posts in real time here: www.sveasy.de . Best regards, Ulrich

Evening Phone Talk with Kirsten

This is my daily chat with Kirsten via Whatsapp.

I made this photo during our call and sent it per E-Mail to this website. It was converted and published automatically as a post. Pretty cool, huh? Took me two days and two nights on the laptop tho get this running, including an ssl-certificate and a thorough renovation of this website.

From now on I will need just an access to E-Mail to post on this blog. This will be nice for keeping you informed during bluewater passages.

Btw, the constant rolling of Easy at the mooring in Bonaire is driving me mad 🙁   This has been going on for two weeks now.
